Beyond the aesthetics: A decade-long mission to restore the heart of our home.

     In the world of curated homes, we often speak of the 'pretty' things—the light, the linen, and the landscape. But a house of this scale is a living organism, and its health is found in its underbelly. For us, true stewardship has meant rolling up our sleeves to fix what was broken, hidden, and—in some cases—entirely backwards.Through a massive Poly-B removal, Pex-A installation, and a total boiler system overhaul, we have finally future-proofed the mechanical heart of our home in the Canadian Rockies.

The Mystery of the Reversed Valves
     When we first took possession, the heating system was a riddle wrapped in an enigma. It was expensive, inefficient, and seemingly defiant. Rick, with his background as a millwright, sensed the 'knocking' of a system in distress.
The discovery was almost comedic: the zone valves had been installed with reverse application. For years, the more a thermostat was cranked up, the more the system shut itself down. It was a metaphor for the house itself—waiting for someone to finally understand its language.

The Canadian Reality: Insulation & Integrity
     A home in the Jasper foothills requires more than just four walls; it requires a thermal envelope that respects the Canadian high altitude winter. From a chance encounter at a gas station that led to a full basement spray-foam overhaul, to the constant refining of our boiler system, we have invested in the 'unseen' with the same passion others reserve for paint.

The 2025 Milestone: The 4,000 Sq. Ft. Overhaul
     In 2025-2026, we completed our most ambitious technical project to date: the total replacement of the entire underfloor heating system. We meticulously removed 4,000 square feet of compromised poly-b tubing—a system riddled with kinks and historical errors— truthfully, likely due to new technology when it was initially installed — and replaced it with a state-of-the-art Pex-A network.
It was three months of literal 'groundwork,' but it was the final piece of the puzzle. Today, the Outlook doesn't just look sophisticated; it breathes with efficiency. We haven't just renovated a house; we have engineered a sanctuary that is as robust as it is beautiful.
     The final piece of our mechanical restoration was the installation of our new NTI high-efficiency 199,000 BTU boiler and hot water combo in 2026. Moving from an aging, struggling system to this powerhouse was the ultimate 'level-up' for our home. It’s more than just a heater; it’s the quiet, efficient heartbeat of the home, providing on-demand warmth and hot water that matches the scale of our 4,000-square-foot footprint.” This upgrade "secured the home’s insurability and future-proofed its value"

• Power Plant: New NTI High-Efficiency 199,000 BTU Boiler/DHW Combo.(The "Quiet Heartbeat").
• Hydronic Overhaul: 4,000 sq. ft. of Pex-A Tubing (Replacing compromised Poly-B).
• Thermal Conductivity: Precision-fit heat transfer plates for zero-loss radiation
• Climate Control: New upgraded precision zone valves and intelligent boiler pumps.
• Envelope Integrity: Full-scale basement spray-foam insulation for a sealed thermal envelope.
