"When this house was first built in 1989, it didn't just turn heads—it sparked a local mythology.
With its sprawling footprint and singular silhouette, it stood in stark contrast to the traditional Canadian builds of the area. The questions followed quickly: Was it a hotel? A retirement home? An overseas social club? Even today, twelve years into our stewardship, the whispers continue. People still love to share the 'inside scoop' on our home, often favouring fiction over the reality of these walls. But today, I want to offer an unconventional thank-you to those rumours.
In a community where acreages come at a premium, the 'mystery' of this property was our greatest ally. While others saw a strange anomaly or a daunting renovation bill, we saw the architecture of a dream. Where the neighbours saw hesitation, we saw an opening.
The Boomerang & The Vision Commonly found in the landscapes of Texas or Florida, our 'Boomerang' ranch offered something rare: a structural masterpiece of layout and longevity. It’s a home designed for life; we’ve hosted grand celebrations on one wing while the family slept in total silence on the other. It was structurally solid, wonderfully unconventional, and—to us—absolutely perfect.
A Legacy of Travel The true backstory is far more elegant than the rumours suggest. The home was custom-designed by a couple who owned hotels overseas. They drew their inspiration from the bold architecture they encountered in Las Vegas and hired the finest tradespeople of the era to bring that international vision to the Jasper ridge.
We didn’t buy this home for a 'steal'—we paid for the potential we saw. We paid for the vision of what this rare gem could become.
I’m honoured to have met the original builders and even more honoured to continue the legacy of this special place. And as for that rumour about it being a retirement home? Perhaps one day it will be—because I plan on aging in place here for as long as I possibly can.
