Above the Treeline: The Story of The Outlook Loft

Picture
In the Canadian Rockies, you don’t choose the view; the mountain chooses you.
When we first staked out the site for our new carriage house and loft, we began with a 40×60-foot footprint. But for Rick, there was one non-negotiable metric that stood above the blueprints: The Roche Miette factor. We knew that to truly honor this acreage, the guest experience had to be elevated—literally. We decided to dedicate a 22×40-foot section of the upper structure to what we are now calling Outlook Loft.
"Twelve years is a long time to live with a landscape, and it changes you. Originally, this loft was only meant for us—a private retreat for ourselves and family members visiting our estate. But as the walls went up and we saw the light hit Roche Miette from the new elevation, a whole new vision evolved. It simply didn't feel right to keep this perspective to ourselves. We realized that the serenity we’ve cultivated here is meant to be shared; it feels right to open our doors and share this amazing view and location with others who are looking for their own moment of quiet reflection."
A Private Vantage Outlook Loft isn’t just a room; it’s a self-contained sanctuary with a separate entry. We’ve designed the flow to lead guests through a middle breezeway and deck area—a transitional space that serves as a "porch to the peaks." Imagine stepping onto the balcony, coffee in hand, to find yourself eye-to-eye with the trees and face-to-face with the mountains. Because we’ve built upward, the view is unobstructed, serene, and absolutely silent.
Life Outside the Loft While Outlook Loft will be filled with pieces of our "Collection"—including the stories of 1904 bricks and heritage artifacts—the real luxury lies outside:
  • The Fire Pits: A secluded area tucked into a quiet section of the acreage for starlit conversations.
  • The Serenity: With ample parking and wide-open spaces, we are crafting this for the guest who seeks an "unplugged" life (with the modern amenities for those who require a connection to the office during their stay).
  • The Scenery: The view of the foothills and the mountains toward Jasper National Park is breathtaking. Step into the scenery; stay for the story.
  • The Excursions: There is so much to explore nearby. Five minutes east is the town of Hinton, home to the Beaver Boardwalk, an acclaimed bike park, and a robust trail system. Twenty minutes north is the Nordic Centre, where cross-country skiing is a local pastime. Fifteen minutes west, you'll find the Jasper National Park gates and our local brewery. Beyond the gates, the drive to the Jasper townsite and ski hill offers world-class views.
The Two-Year Journey We are currently in the foundational phase of this evolution. We are taking our time to ensure that every timber and every finish matches the weight of the landscape.

While The Heritage Lodge remains our private sanctuary and the heart of our 15-year mission, the Outlook Loft is our invitation to you—a future guest space designed to share the quiet majesty of the Rockies.

We aren’t just building a place to stay; we are building a vantage point. We can't wait to welcome you to experience the "Art of the Mountains" and "Find Your Perspective" here at Lodge and Legacy’s Outlook Loft.

    The Stewards

Lodge & Legacy is the shared life’s work of Rick and Tanya. Our journey within Our Heritage Lodge has been defined by a deep respect for craftsmanship and the belief that a true sanctuary is built, not bought. Rick is the master of the "Resolve." A visionary with rare mechanical and architectural skill, he personally designed and hand-built our 40x60 Carriage House—the foundation of our evolution. His ability to translate a vision into timber and stone is the reason we were able to take on a project of this magnitude. Tanya is the curator of the "Grace." With an eye for interior artistry and heritage provenance, she breathes soul into the structures Rick builds. Tanya ensures that every 1904 brick and salvaged artifact tells a story, turning our home into a curated experience of quiet reflection. Together, we are the stewards of this mountain sanctuary—uncovering its beauty through Rick’s hands and Tanya’s heart.

A NOTE FROM LODGE & LEGACY

Thank you for joining us on this journey of restoration.
Lodge & Legacy didn't begin as a grand mission; it began with a house we simply wanted to call home. We didn't yet know the magnitude of what lay beneath the surface, nor the historic significance of the 1904 masonry that would eventually define our path.

As we moved in, the stories began to unveil themselves—one brick, one beam, and one mechanical overhaul at a time. We have learned that restoration, much like dance, requires immense patience for the process and a deep respect for form.
We welcome the rigor of the work, knowing that preserving a legacy is a marathon, not a sprint. We are honored to share these stories with you as we steward this sanctuary toward its next hundred years.
