The King’s Seat: How Two Pieces of Royal History Found a New Outlook

"History doesn't always arrive in a velvet-lined crate. Sometimes, it arrives in the back of a bin, marked for a landfill.

In 1939, when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth arrived at the Jasper Park Lodge, the air was thick with the weight of impending war and the awe of a Royal tour. For that historic visit, the Lodge commissioned a set of twelve custom white oak, leather and high end damask tapestry dining chairs. Each one a masterpiece of craftsmanship, designed to hold the weight of the monarchy. They weren't designed for the cavernous dining halls of the main Lodge; they were crafted specifically for the Outlook Cabin-a space defined by its intimacy, its view, and its singular focus on the Jasper skyline.

1939 was an era that favored the elegant over the massive; these chairs carry a frame that is far more refined and compact than the heavy, oversized dining chairs we see today. Because they were the 'State Seating' for the Outlook Cabin, they spent most of their lives in the shadows, brought out only when the Lodge hosted the world’s elite or the British monarchy. They were the silent witnesses to the most exclusive, intimate moments in the history of Jasper Park Lodge.

Decades later, two of the twelve chairs were considered 'past their prime.' They were destined to be forgotten as mere debris due to the parched wood and leather that needed care. But history has a way of finding its stewards. Thanks to the sharp eyes and stubborn resolve of the team at Full Circle, they were saved. Of the original twelve, ten remain in the quiet, climate-controlled storage of the Jasper Park Lodge, preserved as artifacts of a bygone era. But two? Two were granted a different fate. Rescued from the edge of the landfill, they have returned home. They aren't museum pieces behind velvet ropes; they are displayed in our private home, where they continue to serve their original purpose.
